Issuance of Qualifications and Statements of Attainment Policy

Category: Administration

Date of approval: Feb 2009

Purpose
The policy aims to;
Outline the principle for awarding qualifications and Statements of Attainment; and
Meet the compliance requirements identified in the AQTF Standards for RTO’s.

Background
VCHN College of Health and Nursing is required to fulfil a range of obligations to OTTE in terms of its RTO status.

Relevant standards are 10 and 11

The policy on assessment is relevant to meeting this policy. Assessment is the process of collecting evidence and making judgments on the extent and nature of performance and other requirements, as described in a set of standards, or learning outcomes, resulting in a judgement of whether or not competency has been demonstrated.

Effective and objective assessment is key to the successful implementation of competency standards in the workplace and in education. This is the judgement of performance and knowledge against the relevant industry competency standards. Once a student has been deemed competent against the competencies of a qualification or Statement of Attainment the relevant document can be issued.

Policy
The policy for issuing Certificates and Statements of Attainment are essentially the same. A central register of the following data will include;

  • Student name in preferred order
  • Student number
  • Course code and title
  • Module of study code and title (if applicable)
  • Signatory names, positions, titles and study area
  • Certificate/Statement reference number
  • Date of issue

All Certificates and Statements must be on approved stationery and issued in accordance with stated procedures.

Certificates and Statements are issued when;

  • All fees have been paid
  • The requirements of the qualification have been met in accordance with the relevant Training Package (if applicable)
  • Results have been recorded and sent to the central register
  • The Training Manager verifies that the award requirements have been met.
