Admission - Student Application

  • The College will send an Application Form for Admission to be completed and a request for the following information:
  • Evidence of a current Police check

  • Immunisation status
  • Successful VETASSESS Nursing Test (literacy and numeracy)

All candidates must successfully pass a telephone interview.

Applicants must meet all of the relevant requirements prior to consideration for entry in to the course.

About VETASSESS
The VETASSESS Test is a normative test for Literacy and Numeracy test based on the National Reporting System for Adult Literacy and Numeracy. The test is set in a context relevant to the course that candidates wish to undertake.  The VETASSESS Test has been established to help Registered Training Providers (RTOs) identify the literacy and numeracy competence of candidates wishing to apply for a course of study.  The VETASSESS Test has been created for Nursing courses such as Certificate IV for Enrolled/Division 2 Nurses.
VETASSESS Statements of Test Score are portable across all participating RTOs throughout Victoria. This provides candidates the benefit of undertaking one test and submitting their test scores to a number of participating RTOs.

VETASSESS has a simple method for booking a test. A student can simply search for upcoming tests and book a seat for the test on-line.  When a test is booked, VETASSESS will send a confirmation letter advising of the venue, date and time of the test session by email.

Admission - Student Selection
When prospective students apply to enter VCHN College of Health and Nursing, the Training Manager (or nominee) assesses each applicant’s educational qualifications (either obtained in Australia or overseas) and potential for successful study. Each application  will be assessed to determine whether the applicant has the required entry level competencies for the particular course in which they wish to enrol. Entry requirements for particular couses are set out in the relevant VCHN course brochure.

If the applicant’s educational qualifications do not meet the College’s admission requirements, other factors may be considered. These are:
  • Mature age,
  • Work experience,
  • Attitude and aptitude,
  • Previous academic results,
  • Attendance at a previous college,
  • Ability and skills to function in an academic environment,
  • Possibility to succeed in his/her academic endeavours.

Having arrived at an admission decision, the student’s English language skills (language and literacy) will be assessed by VCHN College of Health and Nursing staff, using the student’s VETASSESS test results as the basis for this assessment.

If the applicant meets the required English skills requirements and has the required educational standards, the applicant will be admitted to his/her chosen course.

In all programs offered by the College, selection is carried out in a manner that reflects the College’s access and equity policies.
